When overseas volume returns, inventory must match the P&L

Sina Finance, citing International Finance News, ran the headline “BYD quarterly profit back above ten billion—mostly driven by overseas?” BYD’s 2026 Q3 report shows third-quarter revenue up year on year by a double-digit percentage and net profit back in the ten-billion range; commentary asks whether overseas markets are doing the heavy lifting.

Around the same window, October sales and delivery rankings highlight how large monthly volumes are for leading automakers, with sub-brands reporting their own totals. Headlines count cars sold; internal systems must answer whether stock, open orders, and recognized revenue use the same definitions.

Overseas and domestic cannot be two silent ledgers

Pushing overseas usually adds currencies, longer lead times, and more in-transit states. If your ERP still mirrors only domestic plants and channels, you often see headquarters pleased with margin while regional hubs miss parts—and finance recognizes on shipment while sales promises dates from order lines, forcing month-end spreadsheets to reconcile the gap.

Procurement needs visibility into overseas in-transit, bonded, and third-party warehouse allocations. Sales needs available-to-promise by brand and region, not one national “sellable” figure copied into every storefront or dealer portal.

Multi-brand volume shares parts and capacity

When several brands ramp in parallel, BOMs, alternates, and platform-shared components overlap. Inventory tracked only by brand name—not by part number and batch—lets transfers and rework consume the wrong ATP bucket. Consolidated reporting needs matching balances for the same SKU across legal entities and warehouses, not a simple sum of press-release delivery counts.

Delivery headlines vs. finance timing

Public delivery rankings move quickly; inside the factory you still have production slots, dispatch plans, and dealer stock. If order management, warehouse execution, and the general ledger drift apart, you can hit record external deliveries while MRP still plans on stale on-hand, or you carry shipped-not-invoiced and invoiced-not-shipped at once. That timing gap shows up in gross margin and overhead allocation when investors read the same quarter you do.

Practical next steps

You do not need to wait for the next earnings call. Document ATP rules first: which sites participate, whether in-transit counts, whether export orders reserve stock. Pick one high-churn reconciliation path—overseas dispatch against revenue recognition—and automate exception routing instead of one-shot adjustments at close. Align dispatch, goods issue, and invoicing on a single status map so lagging modules are obvious daily.

Manufacturing ERP earns its keep when scale forces one operational truth, not extra report tabs. Fixed-price when requirements are clear, milestones when they will evolve; ERP engagements typically run two to six months after written scoping.
